Chamberlains Barn, Leighton Buzzard

Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4 Road Safety Audits

Chamberlain’s Barn is part of a large urban extension scheme on the northeast side of Leighton Buzzard. It incorporates a network of new spine roads and their connections to the existing highway network, together with a diverted and elevated small gauge single track industrial railway.

Gateway RSE has conducted Road Safety Audits at Stages 1, 1/2, 2 and 3.

Notable features of the scheme include an uncontrolled level crossing close to a crossroads junction, a short section of one-way operation and an associated no entry gateway on one of the link roads.

Objectives and Challenges

A number of road safety problems were identified by the audits, but our constructive recommendations enhanced the scheme from a road safety perspective within reasonable budgetary and physical constraints.

Consequently, the proposed highway works have been approved and will help to deliver approximately 950 much needed new homes.
